Gering Health Strategies & Geosolutions recently wrote a grant to help secure close to $200,000 for Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters (KSBBBS) to advance one-to-one mentorship with their Bigs in Blue program.

With the new funding, KSBBBS plans to recruit more officers to mentor at-risk youth, building resiliency and reducing negative behavioral health outcomes. They will also host a one-day conference for youth and their mentors to participate in life skills training and a mini career fair for youth to learn about opportunities after school.

By the end of the grant period, KSBBBS aims to foster more than 20 new matches. For children with numerous Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), having a positive adult role model who cares about them can mitigate some of the harms associated with ACEs.
