About

What we do

Gering Geosolutions is a Kansas-based organization in Lawrence dedicated to providing a wide range of services to advance community health with a strong focus on equity. By leveraging geospatial tools and cutting-edge analysis, we work tirelessly to identify and address disparities in health outcomes. Our goal is to pinpoint areas needing additional resources to ensure that every neighborhood receives the support necessary to achieve the health outcomes its residents deserve. Whether it’s mapping access to healthcare services or analyzing environmental factors impacting public health, our approach is rooted in a commitment to fostering equitable and thriving communities.

DJ Gering, MA

With almost ten years of dedicated expertise in public health strategy, data visualization, and health equity, my goal is to empower coalitions, health departments, and community groups to make informed decisions that will truly transform community health and eradicate health disparities. My past projects include impactful work such as community health assessments, data walks, vaccine equity, service location analysis, and addressing food insecurity.

I have had the privilege to share my innovative work at prominent conferences such as the Esri User Conference, Rx and Illicit Drug Summit, and the National Prevention Network, where I had the opportunity to inspire and collaborate with fellow professionals dedicated to positively impacting public health.

History

Gering Geosolutions was founded on the belief that data should drive local change. After nearly a decade of working at the intersection of public health, geospatial analytics, and community strategy, DJ Gering launched Gering Geosolutions to help organizations make data more accessible, actionable, and equitable.

DJ’s career began in infectious disease surveillance at the Kansas Department of Health & Environment, where he focused on HIV and STI data. He later served as public health analyst for Reno County during the COVID-19 pandemic, leading emergency response data tracking and data visualization. During this time, he became known for transforming complex health data into practical insights for real-world decision-making.

He went on to support overdose response efforts across Kansas as part of the Overdose Response Strategy (ORS), designing tools to track naloxone distribution, visualize overdose patterns, and support harm reduction groups.

With a Master of Arts in Global Security from Arizona State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Wichita State, DJ blends policy insight with deep technical skill. Today, Gering Health Strategies & Geosolutions supports local governments and non-profits across Kansas and beyond, offering expertise in:

  • Community Health Needs Assessments (CHNAs)
  • Public health dashboards
  • Strategic planning and development
  • Survey design and data analysis
  • GIS and spatial storytelling

Our goal is simple: Make data work for people.
